On Thursday's rambling we explored our neighborhood's ravine trail. It was a cool cloudy day and a short trial. We walked to the top then turned around to go back down to the beach- until it rained. The healing that occurs in the forest on a simple ramble is such a relief to the senses. The forest is where I've always gone to breathe, heal, and be. I've been going to the forest since I was a child. It's always worked to center and ground my being.
Today's rambling was on a random unofficial trail on a large public land area. Now's the time of year to catch the prolific Pacific rhododendrons lighting it up. It's Saturday and there were no other people around. Once you cross the open area traffic can no longer be heard, only the birds that have returned from faraway lands to nest here. A brightly colored male Townsend's warbler came down form the treetops to check us out and a female warbler stop flitting long enough to find out who was invading their forest. By the time we turned around it was raining and time to head home.
